George and Bessie is the creation of Tonna Cooney, a true romantic at heart who loves decorating with flea market finds. Her business is even named after her grandparents whom she has fond memories of visiting every summer in Tennessee. Her keen eye for using vintage textiles and accessories blends together to create an eclectic, yet warm and inviting space with a nod to the past.
A Southern girl through and through, Tonna was born and raised in Texas. In 1996, she married her soul-mate and love of her life, Stephen. Soon after, their family began to grow, but Tonna became discouraged because she couldn't find the right items to decorate the nursery. Then in the spring of 1998 (just 3 weeks from her due date), Tonna and a friend attended the Round Top Antiques Show and her love affair with "junking" began.
Four kids later, she's still "junking", often with the whole family in tow, searching for just the right accessories for nurseries and children's rooms. Her unique approach to decorating and comfortable style has garnered the attention of mothers everywhere.
